During the Renaissance, casinos were small houses reserved for influential gentlemen and used for meetings and debates. The photo features the empty ruins of one such casino. At the same time, the architecture is reminiscent of simple symmetrical buildings in eastern Anatolia and the Maghreb.
The architect John Soane imagined his house (also a kind of casino) three hundred years in the future and envisioned how an archivist would find his models and turn them into museum pieces.
